Aligned to International Women’s Day and its #InspireInclusion campaign, on Wednesday 6th March we were delighted to host an evening dedicated to just that at Pitch, bringing together attendees across sports, lifestyle and travel industries. The evening combined delicious canapés, brilliant company and a fantastic DJ set from female DJs The Collyer Twins. Attendees could even take on Scotland’s no.1 female golfer Gemma Dryburgh in our nearest to the pin ‘Play the Pro’ tournament, with Old Course Hotel caps to match.
Celebrating and promoting women in sport remains a pivotal topic and one that is central to Old Course Hotel in 2024 with the AIG Women’s Open taking place on the Old Course itself this year. Old Course Hotel also recently proudly announced their first official brand ambassador Gemma Dryburgh who sees continued success in her field and last year was selected for the winning European team in the Solheim Cup.
Despite the growing popularity of women’s sport demonstrated by record breaking viewing and attendance figures, we are regularly reminded of the progress still needed to truly empower women in sport. Recently, Pro golfer and influencer, Georgia Ball, captured and shared the moment she received unsolicited advice from a male golfer on her golfing technique. The video, which has been viewed on TikTok more than 12 million times, has brought to light a frequent experience for female golfers and sports players, sparking an important discussion on the need for change and the importance of events dedicated to celebrating and inspiring the next generation of sportswomen.
Continuing to celebrate sporting women in 2024, Old Course Hotel will also be hosting its very first Cold Water Wellness Retreat in collaboration with Olympic open water swimmer, Keri-anne Payne. The newest addition to the hotel’s lineup of wellbeing offerings will be taking place from 4th – 6th May and offers guests the chance to explore the transformative effects of cold water dipping in the open water spaces of the East Coast of Scotland. As well as guided dips in lochs, beaches and tidal pools, the retreat will also include luxurious spa treatments, nutritious meals and a local gin distillery tour.
